NHS Hosts Orange Day for Fellow Student's Battle With Leukemia

On December 11 at Nonnewaug High School, students and staff came together in a special way to honor their fellow Chief, senior Jonathan Cheung. Students and staff wore orange, the color for Leukemia Awareness, to show support to Jonathan, who was diagnosed with Leukemia in November and is undergoing treatment in the hospital.

The group picture of the sea of orange with the scoreboard set to 55 – his football number – was sent to Jonathan today along with a card signed by members of the Chiefs community.

Students were also given orange ribbons and could purchase a rubber Leukemia Awareness bracelet for a donation. The Orange Day raised more than $1,200, which will go toward helping the Cheung family navigate through Jonathan’s treatment.

All of us in Region 14 are continuing to keep Jonathan and his family in our thoughts and prayers. #CheungStrong
